Business Setup

Starting a business means entity registration, an EIN, county licensing where applicable, sales tax registration, and a clear tax plan from day one.

What a proper setup requires

Most counties require a local business tax receipt regardless of where the business operates. Sales tax registration, entity formation, and payroll rules all have their own filing obligations. We handle the paperwork end-to-end so nothing gets missed on day one.

Home office deduction (if you work from home)

Self-employed owners who work from home can claim the home office deduction if a portion of the home is used exclusively and regularly for business. Two methods: simplified ($5 per square foot, up to 300 sq ft) and regular (actual expenses allocated by business-use percentage).

Have a specific situation?
Call the office and a human answers.

Zoning and HOA considerations

If you plan to run the business from home, local zoning and HOA restrictions may apply. We don't handle the zoning piece but flag it during setup so you can check before investing in buildout.

Common questions

Can I claim the home office deduction as an employee?
No, not since 2017. Employee home office deductions were eliminated by the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act through 2025.
Does the home office deduction trigger an audit?
The mythology that it does is outdated. Claiming the deduction correctly with real documentation is not a notable audit flag.
