Notices and letters
Most IRS contact starts as a letter with a 30-day response window. Ignoring it means the next letter has a shorter window and the one after that has collection teeth. We respond with documentation, dispute the items that don't hold up, and agree to the items that do.
Audit representation
Correspondence audits (mail), office audits, and field audits are all handled under the same federal representation privilege. Enrolled Agents are one of three professions allowed to represent taxpayers before the IRS nationwide, and Herman handles the audit work at the firm.
Back taxes and collection
If you're behind on filings or balances, the first move is getting the missing returns in. From there we assess whether you qualify for an installment agreement, currently-not-collectible status, or an Offer in Compromise. The documentation is heavy; the outcomes are meaningful.
Common questions
- Can you represent me if I'm in a different state?
- Yes. Enrolled Agents are federally licensed and can represent taxpayers before the IRS in any state. We work with clients in all 50 states on IRS correspondence, audit, and collection matters.
- I got a letter and the response window is almost up. Can you help?
- Call the office today. Short windows are normal in IRS correspondence, and we can often file a hold-letter or extension request while we prepare the full response.
- Should I call the IRS myself first?
- Generally, no. Once you authorize us on Form 2848, we handle the calls. Taxpayers regularly say things to agents on the phone that are used against them later.
